Working with Sayeed has been an absolute pleasure. He is a man of his word and I appreciate that he is always honest. He is also extremely flexible and easy to work with. His rugs are so beautiful and I never come out of the store empty handed. I’m sad to see him retire, but I wish him all the best.”

For several years we have had the pleasure of working with Sayeed Hazandadeh at Merrifield Oriental Rug. The service has been outstanding. Sayeed’s attention to detail and meeting deadlines for our clients has been amazing. If Sayeed did not have the carpets we needed in stock, he was able to find what we needed quickly. The professionalism we have received has been second to none.

Sayeed is Retiring

After 35 Years of Dedication to the Community – Retirement Sale Ends December 31st!ace

Sayeed’s passion for the rich colors, thoughtful craftsmanship and design of Oriental and Persian rugs has served as a guide throughout his life…

Sayeed Hasanzadah has a wealth of incredible cultural knowledge from traveling the world. The son of a rug merchant, he is originally from Afghanistan. He has lived briefly in Turkey, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Austria, Switzerland, and finally the United States. Sadly, he won’t be able to share this multi-cultural knowledge for much longer because he is retiring.

Sayeed arrived in the Washington, D.C. area during the 1970’s, started taking classes and began working at Dominique’s restaurant. He also began to follow his true passion and sold rugs on the side. While still working at Dominique’s, Sayeed began to develop his customer relations philosophy, “the customer is always right, although sometimes they need a little help.”

Since then, Sayeed has stayed loyal to the same belief system and strives to put his customers first. He already knew the ins and outs of the oriental rug business from his father, who ran a successful business in Afghanistan. Sayeed’s practical sense paired with his charismatic personality made for a thriving business that has grown into many meaningful relationships with his customers. Sayeed has spent the past 35 years teaching us the traditions and cultures of his home life so we don’t have to travel a single mile. With many satisfied clients, Merrifield Oriental Rug is not just a marketplace, it is a community.

Sayeed has ventured around the world to find and share unusual, functional works of art with you. But he won’t be around for long; he’s retiring, so stop in soon!
